Making Money Tips Review – Are You Wasting Time Trying to Earn More Money?
Since there are many problems that come with starting a new business, let’s look at one of the basics which is just deciding what services or items that you will offer. There is an instance of a financial coach and New York Times best selling author, Ramit Sethi, who was coaching a freelance writer “Amy” who had offered to help him interview some of his readers and gather money making stories for his blog. She offered to work for him in exchange for advice on building her freelance business.
Their first advice conversation was one that Ramit found fascinating when she asked all the classic questions:
*How come I’m not earning enough money?
*How do I get paying clients that stick with me?
*When I am not focused or targeted in my self-promotion, how can I do
that better?
*How can I make better use of my time?
Now, this is a prime example of the obstacles that face many entrepreneurs when starting their businesses, so here is what he shared in their sessions together. Some simple techniques that Amy and Ramit decided would help her focus her efforts and help her to earn more money.
AMY’S PROBLEM
First, Ramit, the coach had to check out her work when she offered to do research and freelance writing for him in exchange for advice and possibly paid work. With some reserve, he checked out her site since it had been his experience that most people who say that they can write can only write as well as a grade-schooler, but he was surprised that she was really talented and could deliver the goods. Specifically, she had published articles in multiple magazines, and on her blog, she wrote about looking for more freelance work.
Further, he realize that she was doing great research while fulfilling their agreement, but, as for her own business…not so much. So, when they had their coaching call, he asked her a few questions:
*What’s your goal? Her first answers were all over the place, not
targeted at all: “I want to have consistent customers” and “I want to
write interesting articles,” which are totally pointless and not
measurable goals. So, he kept on pressing her to be specific: “I
want at least two clients paying me $500 each month by June.”
Good answer.
*What are you doing to make your goals a reality-how do you spend
your time? This is where the conversation peaked my interest.
She was doing all these things: Updating her blog, adding content to
her website, attending networking events, working with Ramit and
some other gratis work, and daily reading blogs to learn about some
aspects of business.
STOP WASTING YOUR
It was clear to the coach that she was using over half of her time on things that
would not directly make her any money. People who are spread out doing 50
different things nothing is done that well. It’s better to focus on 1 or 2 most
important tactics.
*WHAT IT THE POINT of updating your blog? Why? How does this
help you reach your goals when what you need is traffic? Ask yourself
if you have gotten any clients from your blog? If not, skip it.
*ADDING content to your website: If your website is already great,
adding content is ovekill. If you have some interesting posts, that is
sufficient for now.
*ATTENDING networking events: Ask yourself this question, for the
amount of time and money that it takes to get you to a seminar (about
5 hours including travel time, scheduling, attendance) You will meet
and give your business card to some people. How many will possibly
do future business with you? Be honest with yourself here. On the
other hand, how many well-planned, highly targeted emails could you
send out in 5 hours? (It’s another story if you are going for education
or motivation though. That’s another topic for future discussions.)
*WORKING with a mentor or some person who can give you training that you need.
I LEARNED that there are many ways to make money that will apply to my online businesses, and, while paraphrasing the article above, I realize that this isn’t exactly how I promote my internet marketing business, it does help me to see that my daily schedule can be more focused on fewer activities that will grow my list of followers and increase visibility.
I also ask myself similar questions about my online business that the coach asked her:
*How much Money will fulfill my needs in the next 6 months? In one year?
In 10 years?
*How do I get loyal people who will Stick with me?
*When I am not focused or targeted in my self-promotion, how can I do
that better?
*How can I focus my energies for better use of my time?
